Your suggestion is noted. My charger happened to work without the resistor, but I know for sure that the newer shuffles require a slightly different setup.

you are saying to tie data pins to ground, in the http://www.hackaday.com/ site, that you mention, it is shown that the data pins should be tied, with a 15K resistor, to +5V.

Please check your wiring and correct the text.
